Predawn Scene of Hippos by River Photoshop Painting for Hippo Day 2019

In the twilight light before dawn a hippo calf and cow eat not far from the water’s edge as the stars and moon shining brightly in the sky. This illustration was painted in Adobe Photoshop with a Wacom Cintiq 13HD and its Pro Pen as part of the Starlight Safari Collection on Friday, February 15th for Hippo Day 2019.

Each Starlight Safari Illustration is painted for a specific wildlife day, such as Hippo Day. Research is done about each creature as well as a study of anatomy. Most of the pictures so far have been of an adult and baby set sometime between sunset and sunrise with at least one star in the sky. Sometimes the idea is already thought of and sometimes the design just comes out as it is painted.

A timelapse video of the painting process is over on our NEW YouTube Channel which is where all our arty videos will soon reside. This is officially the first video published there.

Tomorrow is World Whale Day, and hopefully another illustration and video will be completed.

We are in the process of re-releasing (in other words moving) all the art videos over from the original YouTube Channel which will continue to feature all our live action nature, wildlife, farm critters, weather, and so on videos.

We have already begun the “move” with last year’s Hippo Day video:

Happy Hippo Day!
